It is a relatively separate splinter personality in the unconscious that is isolated from exposure and discovery. #3 The shadow is the part of us that we don't want to see. It is the disowned self, a holding buffer that contains our unacceptable parts. It becomes a holding buffer as we grow up, and we drag it behind us as we grow up. #4 The shadow is the whole unconscious, and it takes on a personal form once we begin to develop awareness of parts of it.
