She died of a subdural hematoma, caused by the blow to the head, with shock, malnutrition, and the excessive injuries as underlying factors. #4 By the end of the year, after a grand jury investigation, Mrs. Baniszewski, Paula, Stephanie, Johnny, Hobbs and Hubbard were being held in jail without bond on charges of first-degree murder. The other four children had been released to their parents, under subpoena as state's witnesses.
